GeoServer Application Schema Joining Support - Niels Charlier

Abstract

The biggest obstacle for using the more semantically rich complex features modelled with Application Schema, rather than flat data and simple features, is potential loss of performance. In particular, with an extensive use of feature chaining the response time of GeoServer app-schema requests increases rapidly with respect to the amount of data requested. This is caused by an increasing amount of SQL queries sent by application schema to the underlying DBMS. With a more advanced way of querying the database, using SQL joining and ordering techniques, we can perform feature chaining with a much smaller amount of queries and increase performance significantly.
