GeoServer Meeting 19 December 2007

Introduction to GeoServer development for BenCaradocDavies and an overview of development goals.

  • Goal of GeoServer development is support for the full ISO feature model.
  • Need to get the GeoServer trunk working with full feature test cases.
  • GeoTools uses a complex feature API but it is not clear how deep the support is.
  • GeoServer currently stores namespaces in multiple places and it is desirable to to reduce configuration load by reading them from schemas.
  • Need to update configurations.
  • Support schema for Observations and Measurements.
  • Need to push timeseries, GeoSciML into test configuration.
  • Support for geometryless database: (x, y) columns
  • Support for on-the-fly compression is largely there but needs debugging and testing.
  • There was a discussion of the requirements of the British Geological Survey and OneGeology.
  • GeoServer complex features support does not work with OGC WMS.
  • Development to start from GeoServer 1.6 and GeoTools 2.4.
