Building the code

To buld the webservices code, start by setting up your environment as described on the GeoserverDevelopmentSetup page.

In addition to this, you need to realise that the webservices code is an optional App-Schema module. To include in in the build you need to add a -Pwebservice flag to the maven build command line. eg

From geotools-trunk:
    * mvn -DdownloadSources=true -Dall clean install eclipse:clean eclipse:eclipse -Pwebservice

This will ensure that the jar gt-ws.jar is built.

Then just run the geotools build as normal, and this will be bundled in the war file ready for deployment.

Changing the code

The code is located in two eclipse projects: gt-ws and app-schema. Just open eclipse, import these projects and away you go. Most of the complex logic is located in the app-schema project. To gain a understanding of the code as quickly as possible, I recomend stepping through the code with the tests in XmlDataStoreTest.
