Starting the virtual machine

  • v2.1 (9.67 GB once uncompressed, 8 files).
  • Either double-click on the vmx file, or:
    1. Start VMware Player.
    2. Open the virtual machine (navigate to the vmx file).
    3. Play the virtual machine.
  • If VMware Player asks, you copied it.
  • The virtual machine should boot.
    • You may get minor warnings about keyboards and devices; these can be safely ignored.
  • Write down the IP address of your virtual machine. You will need it later. You cannot cut-and-paste from the VMware console.
    • The IP address is printed above the login prompt on the console.
    • The IP address is set by VMware player and is different for each installation, but should remain stable once set.
    • To view the IP address of the virtual machine at any time, enter ifconfig within the VMware console (once logged in). The address will be listed under inet addr for eth0.
  • Passwords are listed on virtual machine home page (see below).
  • Your mouse disappears when you get focus on the console. Press Ctrl-Alt to make VMware release your mouse pointer.

Virtual machine home page

  • To access the virtual machine home page, type the virtual machine IP address in the address bar of your web browser.
  • The virtual machine home page contains link to SISS workshop content both on the virtual machine and on the seegrid wiki.
    • PLEASE NOTE, DAY INDICATORS ON THE HOME PAGE ARE FOR THE FULL-LENGTH SISS WORKSHOP AND SHOULD BE DISREGARDED FOR ALL OTHER PURPOSES
